One feels luxuriously dressed in a calm, pure, and minimal way,” says Cate Blanchett, serene and soigné in a cashmere blanket coat from the label she’s lauding: The Row. Like Blanchett herself, The Row is synonymous with quality and a kind of independent synergy. Of course, she’s hardly the only fan: Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s customers are helping the eleven-year-old label claim the mantle of the wardrobe of our time in the same way that Donna Karan defined New York women’s essentials in the nineties.
Behind their international success, Mary-Kate and Ashley have always worked privately and mindfully, showing beautiful clothes their way, sans spectacle. In fact, they loathe fuss. But how did two former child stars—who just turned 30 this past June—become such connoisseurs of so many different women’s wardrobes? The twins are as succinct in their response as they are in their designs: “Continuity,” says Mary-Kate. “We are a trustworthy brand that really sells exactly what we say we’re selling.” Adds Ashley: “The only people we feel we need to answer to are our clients.”
They attribute their perfectionist resolve to having been given a voice at a very young age and having sat in many meetings with heads of the entertainment and finance industries, allowing both of them to hone their ability to decipher “the good influences versus the bad influences,” as Ashley puts it, while staying focused. “We own our brand. We don’t get pushed in any direction.”
With the exception of a few Italian knits, they manufacture all of their ready-to-wear in the United States. “That means a lot,” Mary-Kate says. “We’ve created at least 80 jobs.” Their elegant designs, by their very nature, challenge fast fashion.
As it turns out, the Olsens were ahead of their time in more than just style. In their April 2001 issue of Mary-Kate and Ashley magazine, they predicted Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign as part of a feature devoted to the question “When will we get our first female president, and who might it be?” Sixteen years later, their designs defy age and—even though they have just launched menswear—gender. “It’s more about respecting one another, whether you’re a female or a male or whatever,” says Mary-Kate. With the Women’s March on Washington then around the corner, she adds, “Women are not the only ones that feel this way—a lot of people feel it. The atmosphere around the entire globe is very interesting right now.”
“What’s going to happen tomorrow? Collectively, I feel everyone is asking that,” says Ashley, who’s made a positive attitude her goal of the year. “What we’ve built so far is pretty incredible. I would like to push that further—but also to be a little lighter on ourselves.”—Emma Elwick-Bates For Vogue
09 November 2016: Mary-kate Olsen and sister Ashley Olsen attend New York Knicks vs Brooklyn Nets game at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Ashley Olsen has confirmed her rumoured romance with financier Richard Sachs.
The 30-year-old could not keep her hands or her lips off the art dealer, 58, as they watched the New York Knicks face off against fellow local team Brooklyn Nets at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. The pair – who were only romantically linked less than two weeks ago – were on a double date with Ashley’s sister Mary-Kate and her husband Olivier Sarkozy. Mary-Kate and Olivier were also putting on a loved up display with the pair kissing and giggling like high school love birds. While Mary-Kate and Olivier got tongues wagging back in the day about their age difference – they are 17 years apart – but Richard more than a decade on Olivier.
The couples were not seated together in their private box, but whenever they came up for air from their kissing sessions they did try to chat over the noise and across the stairway separating them. Ashley seemed to be really enjoying her night with Richard and spent most of the game leaning against him and stealing kisses whenever she could and it was not just a peck here and there, at one point her older beau romantically reached up and pulled her face towards his for a big kiss.Ashley may have been inspired to continue to try to date up a few decades by her sister and Olivier. The couple, who married a year ago, are clearly very much in love. While there may be 17 years between them, there was no space between them as they watched the Knicks managed to hold back the Nets 110 to 96.Ashley obviously feels she has found someone she thinks is pretty special now that she is bringing her around her twin. Page Six was first to report there may be something going on between The Row designer and the art collector after they were spotted at a spin class together on October 28.They had been photographed walking around the Hamptons a week prior. Richard is said to be divorced, and lives in New York, St. Barts and Malibu. He is not her first foray into dating a man of vintage from the art works, with Ashley briefly dating George Condo, 58, while prior to that she was with the CEO of Oliver Peoples CEO David Schulte, 47.
NEW YORK, United States — American luxury label The Row has added a new executive team member to its roster.
David Schulte will join the company, co-founded by co-ceos Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen in 2006, as president, effective immediately. He arrives from the Los Angeles-based, Luxotica Group-owned Oliver Peoples, where he has served as president and chief executive since 2006.
“The Row has a distinctive culture, aesthetic and independent spirit that I am completely aligned with,” Schulte, who will be based in New York, told BoF. “I look forward to contributing to its continued success.”
The news comes on the heels of several important steps in The Row’s business trajectory, including the opening of its first New York retail location in May 2016 — joining its Los Angeles location — and the introduction of its first menswear collection in late October 2016.
“We believe that David’s experience and innate sensibility for the brand will help manifest The Row’s next level of global growth,” co-chief executives Ashley Olsen and Mary-Kate Olsen told BoF in a joint statement.
Indeed, the label’s critical acclaim — including two CFDA Awards for Womenswear — along with wholesale and retail commercial success has positioned it as a leader in American luxury, indicating there is more to come.
Congratulations to both Mary-Kate & Ashley!

Ashley Olsen Caught Cozying Up To George Condo?
Just months after twin sister Mary-Kate tied the knot with 17-years-older fiancé Olivier Sarkozy, Ashley Olsen may be following in her footsteps!
The former Full House actress, 30, is rumored to be spending loads of time with artist, George Condo, 59.
According to Page Six, the pair was spotted “holding hands and snuggling” Sunday at Balthazar in New York City.
“It was obvious something was going on,” a source told the publication. “It looked like she was dining with her grandpa, but they were holding hands and snuggling.”
And while the duo was also seen at the Mercer Hotel in June, Condo’s rep said at the time that “it was simply a business meeting.” Of course, Condo is newly single after splitting from his wife Anna last year.
Despite her much older alleged flame, is Ashley still obsessed with youth? Earlier this year, Olsen reportedly dealt with a plastic surgery nightmare after using it as a quick way to keep her looking fresh.
“Just before the holidays, Ashley underwent a simple filler procedure called a liquid facelift, but it went horribly wrong,” an insider told In Touch of the surgery that requires doctors to use needles to fill cheeks and the jaw with filler or fat.
However, just days after Olsen’s procedure, “It caused her face to swell, bruise and blacken,” revealed the insider. “Ashley freaked out when she saw it. It was a nightmare.”

LA is the only place (for now) where you can shop both of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s luxe labels, as Elizabeth and James officially opens at The Grove today. Located next door to MAC Cosmetics in front of the fountain, the boutique is the CFDA-approved twin fashion moguls’s first-ever flagship for their contemporary label.
Rather than following the footsteps of their high-end line The Row (which debuted on Melrose Place a few years back), we’re told the Olsens selected the tourist-friendly hub because “it’s an LA institution” where their customers already shop. The 1,200-square-foot space — designed in collaboration with architect David Montalba — is an ode to the twins’s hometown: in addition to stocking E&J’s full womenswear, accessories, and fragrance collections, the shop offers its reintroduced denim line, which was absent from the past several seasons.
The design duo also worked with local shops in curating the shelves and decorating the interiors: expect to find a selection of vintage kimonos, tees, and indigo-dyed textiles from Spanish Moss (Scout shopkeep Joey Grana’s other vintage venture) and Cali-cool seating (not for sale, sadly) from Galerie Half. Additional in-store exclusives include Elizabeth and James’s signature croc-stamped leather bags and pouches, a sleek pink suit set, and linen pants.
Elizabeth and James at The Grove is open Monday through Thursday from 10am to 9pm, Friday and Saturday from 10am to 10pm, and Sunday from 10am to 9pm.
To celebrate we’ve got the Elizabeth & James Nirvana Giveaway still going! Only 8 days left to send your 2 favourite candid outfits of Mary-Kate & Ashley & 1 event! Send to email@example.com
